Vortex Springs is a naturally occurring freshwater spring located within a 500 acre property purchased in 1972 by none other than Doc & Ruth Dockery inventors of the “Diver Down” flag that is instantly associated by everyone with scuba diving.
While Florida is known for beautiful salt water dive locations especially along the keys there are a number of natural fresh water springs located throughout the state that make for wonderful dive sites. These typically provide very clear or partally clear visibility within their waters along with warm temperatures throughout the year.
The springs showcase a few interesting features under the surface and have a small underwater cave for exploration by experienced and properly certified divers.
Dolphin Dive Center utilizes this dive site for its Open Water certification course throughout the year as well as for several dive trips.
